Understand the 2025 Skilled Worker visa salary rules: who needs £41,700, who qualifies for £29,000 or £31,300, and how to meet the right threshold.
Have you heard both £41,700 and £29,000 are acceptable salaries for the Skilled Worker visa in 2025? Here’s what they really mean.
Big changes to Skilled Worker visa salaries came into effect in July 2025, following earlier updates in April 2024. These reforms aimed to align immigration salaries more closely with the UK labour market and reduce overall migration numbers.
On 22 July 2025, the Home Office introduced another major update to the Skilled Worker visa salary thresholds.
In Short: £41,700 is the new normal, but £31,300 or even £25,000 can still appear in some transitional cases.
Here’s how to know which salary figure applies to you:

How Employers Should Prepare
What is the Skilled Worker visa salary in 2025?
Most new applicants must earn at least £41,700 or the occupation’s going rate, whichever is higher.
Why are there two salary figures – £41,700 and £29,000?
£41,700 applies to new applicants from July 2025. £29,000 only applies to older Health & Care or transitional cases that pre-date April 2024.
Can new entrants still qualify under £33,400?
Yes — the “new entrant” category allows salaries from £33,400, provided all eligibility criteria are met.
What if my job’s going rate is higher than £41,700?
You must meet the higher figure — the going rate always overrides the general threshold.
How do I know if I’m a transitional applicant?
Check when your Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) was issued. If it was before 4 April 2024, you can rely on one of the transitional rates.
